The UZ-1 is the original Uzima Water Filter, designed and tested in rural Kenya for the needs and environments of the developing world. The UZ-1 is built to be highly effective at bacteria removal, easy to use, durable, and inexpensive, with a high flow rate and long life-span.

Utilizing Hollow Fiber Membrane technology (the same technology used in kidney dialysis), the UZ-1 filters over 99.99997% of the bacteria that cause waterborne disease. It is easily maintained by back flushing with clean water, requires no electricity, there are no consumables to buy, and no parts to replace. Simply drill the required holes in two 20L (5 gallon) buckets and one lid, attach the included bucket connector, filter, and water tap, and the UZ-1 is ready to provide clean water, with no additional operating costs, for up to ten years. It is a simple, effective clean water solution that is easily deployed anywhere in the world.

The UZ-BP backpack system was developed for situations where buckets are hard to source or impractical to transport. Developed for rapid deployment in emergency situations, the UZ-BP is a complete water filtration system, ready to use when disaster strikes, but durable enough to last for many years afterward.  

Using our popular UZ-1 filter, attached to a 17.5L (4.5 gallon) heavy duty water-safe vinyl backpack, the UZ-BP is ideal for emergency relief situations, where it can be stored compactly and deployed quickly to those in need. Usage instructions are printed directly onto the bag, with visual illustrations of each step in the assembly and cleaning processes, making large-scale distributions quick, easy, and effective. Because it uses the UZ-1 filter, the UZ-BP has the same advantages over other filtration products. It filters over 99.99997% of the bacteria that cause waterborne disease, is easy to use and maintain, and will provide ample clean water for an individual or family for years to come.

The UZ-XL is the big brother of the UZ-1, built for the high capacity demands of schools, orphanages, clinics, and large homes. The UZ-XL will work with almost any piped water system, whether gravity-fed or pressurized, and will provide clean drinking water to large groups of people for up to ten years.

Taking advantage of our tested Hollow Fiber Membrane technology, the unique design of the UZ-XL allows for easy maintenance while maintaining a much lower costs than other large filtration systems. The back flushing process on the UZ-XL is all accomplished in-line, with no manual cleaning, and without removing any parts. Simply turn a few valves and let the water pressure in your system do the cleaning. The UZ-XL is a perfect companion for new water systems, and as an addition to existing systems where contamination is present.

The UZ-SF is an add-on to our popular UZ-XL Large Capacity Filter. The UZ-SF is designed to eliminate sediment and large particulates from source water prior to entering the UZ-XL filter. 

In systems with highly turbid water (often indicated by cloudy discoloration), this additional pre-filter will assist in the filtration process and allow for longer times between necessary back flushing of the UZ-XL. The UZ-SF should be installed between the water source and the UZ-XL, and is easily cleaned by opening the valve at the bottom and flushing water through the filter.

Nothing demonstrates the "clear" transition from dirty water to clean water quite like our Clear Demo Kit. When used as part of a comprehensive Water, Sanitation, and Health presentation, the UZ-CD Clear Demo Kit is an effective tool to illustrate the importance of using the UZ-1 Water Filter.

It is sometimes difficult to explain how the UZ-1 works, but by using our Clear Demo Kit, you can show the dirty water in the top bucket coming out clean and clear in the bottom bucket. The kit includes 2 clear buckets, 1 clear lid, 1 UZ-1 Water Filter, 1 Bucket Connector, 1 Filter Cleaning Syringe, and 1 Water Tap (so you can personally demonstrate your confidence in the filter by pouring yourself a glass of clean, filtered water).
